I've decided on a celebrant, but what now?
So, you’ve decided you’d like to book a celebrant for your celebration. How exciting! But you have no idea where to start on knowing the sorts of questions to ask? No problem. I have got some ideas below on what might be useful to ask below.
Good places to start...
You don’t want to get too far down the road of discussion if the celebrant you’re interested in booking isn’t available! So the perfect place to start is availability. If you’re a little flexible about the date, then be open about this. It might be that your celebrant can help you work out what date might be best. Such as suggesting a venue or location that might be work for your ceremony or answering any questions you have about dates.
What is your ceremony style?
Every celebrant is different. We all have our own styles. So finding out what the style is of your celebrant is really important. If you’re a quiet couple or family, a loud celebrant might not be what you’re looking for. Or if you prefer tradition over “breaking the rules”, then making sure you have a celebrant that’s on the same page as you is really important.
Have a look at your celebrant’s website, social media and look at reviews. As all this information can help you get an idea on whether you’re likely to click with your celebrant. You want someone who is going to put you at ease on your ceremony day.
Follow on questions, once you’ve worked out the basics...
Do I get to see the ceremony script before the big day?
This is an important question for 2 reasons. Firstly, not all celebrants share the full script with you before the ceremony day. And secondly, you may not want to see the script before the day! So make sure that you are clear whether you want to see it before the ceremony day or not and make sure you’re aligned with your chosen celebrant.
I’d like to involve family in the ceremony, how can I do this?
There are multiple ways people can be involved in your ceremony, or in the rest of the day. Your celebrant will have suggestions about how to include those most important to you, so ask the question. I also have a blog post that may help you with some ideas on this, so check it out here if you want some ideas!
The “just for fun” questions...
What will you wear during the ceremony?
If you have a preference on what your celebrant wears on the ceremony day, ask! I am always happy to fit in with a colour scheme or avoid certain colours if needed. I don’t want to be wearing the same colour as the bridesmaids for example! Plus, if you’re looking for a really relaxed ceremony, you might not want someone dressed like they’re off to the Ritz! So, communicate this with your celebrant, so you’re all on the same page.
What if we’re running late?
Every celebrant will have a different answer on this. But my motto is that you’ve booked me for the day, so it doesn’t matter if you’re running late. But speak to your celebrant about this, as some may have different rules they follow, so it’s best to know before the day!
Still don’t know what to ask?
It really doesn’t matter if you don’t know where to start with the questions for your celebrant. They will be more than happy to help you through the process.
